On new year’s night, when crackers were fired to celebrate the occasion, 20-year-old Anjali Singh and her friend driving a scooter had an accident with a car with five men in their 20s on board in Delhi. She got stuck in the car's undercarriage, and the car drove on for 12km before being left naked on the street. Her friend, who went home without saying anything to anybody out of panic, claims that the men in the car knew Anjali Singh was caught under the car but drove away anyway, while the men claim they did not know it.

Justice: What is the right thing to do? It is the name of a book by Micheal Sandel of Harvard University. In the book, Sandel discusses many often debated issues such as telling lies, abortion, same-sex marriage, etc. But cases such as Anjali Singh’s death are unique in the way death occurred and those involved. The accused claimed to be under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred, which is a crime under Delhi laws. They also did not stop the car to make sure the girls on the scooter were unharmed, which should amount to a crime in itself. But the accused are in their twenties with no criminal pasts.
