Quran is not the only text that the Taliban claim to follow, they also claim to follow the words and deeds of Islam's prophet. In some of those words, one could find mistreatment of women, although their authenticity is disputed sometimes.

I do not believe there is a way to transform the Taliban without resorting to violence. Sanctions won't work, negotiations won't solve anything, and being a bystander doesn't change anything.
