Following is a chronology of Taliban women's ban

  • Following the collapse of the US and NATO-backed government on August 15th, 2021, the Taliban banned girls between 6 to 12 grades from school.
  • Last December, the Taliban banned girls from Universities. Though the Taliban official's decree did not ban girls from primary education, its soldiers have stopped girls from primary education. Also, they have disallowed all female teachers.
  • Last December, the defacto regime also banned working women from working in NGOs and INGOs.
  • At the start of this month (January 2023), the Taliban banned schools for blind girls.
  • At the beginning of this month (January 2023), The Taliban banned female-run bakeries in Kabul.
  • On January 9th, 2023, the Taliban banned women shopkeepers from doing their businesses in the northern city of Mazara-e Sharif.

This post may be updated as it's likely that the Taliban will issue more decrees expanding the women's ban.

I scout Afghanistan media for stories about women that deserve wider attention. Whatever I earn on Medium, 50% will be donated to educating children in Afg.
