Thank you, Russ, for taking an interest in this topic. The medium business model is problematic. It is based primarily on reciprocation. It goes like this: I read and clap your article, and you reciprocate the same. In this way, I will make as many comments and clap without actually reading, hoping that I get reciprocation. Of course, it's all about earning, not learning or educating.

I care about people reading what I write or translate because I care about the things I write or translate (mainly about the gender oppression that the Taliban have unleashed in my country and on my people). I want people to know about it, and I hope this awareness might change something for the people I care about. I do not write for pleasure, and unlike many others, I do not enjoy writing; writing is a torturous experience for me, but I write because people should know about my topic. Otherwise, I will enjoy doodling my way towards learning a new language I am trying to learn. Therefore, for me, the number of readers matters, and boosting is the medium mechanism for that, but those who suggest articles for boosting are medium publication editors, and there is a problem that I commented about.

Since you enjoy humor, I put how the medium works humorously in one of my pieces about the medium. I left the link here for you to read. https://medium.com/illumination/medium-the-unconventional-casino-9852c3519d25

I scout Afghanistan media for stories about women that deserve wider attention. Whatever I earn on Medium, 50% will be donated to educating children in Afg.
