Illustration from the book Mazeh-e dood.

As always, the roundabout at the city center is crowded. Everyone is after something and is trying to accomplish their daily routines. Some people in the crowd hope to do something better for their future. Some are headed toward universities and schools, hoping they will one day complete their education. Some are naive enough to imagine that they will do something for their homeland and bring about a much brighter future for the people. Some are walking and sweating to earn some money so that they can avoid poverty and hunger. Some are walking slowly; some are rushing. When you look at them, in their eyes, you will see the dreams and hopes for a better tomorrow.

Boom! a horrible and deadly sound is heard. Suddenly, the hopes and aspirations of a better future are gone from people’s minds. Everyone is running away and hiding. The human body parts cover the road, and the blood flows along the street`s sides.

I scout Afghanistan media for stories about women that deserve wider attention. Whatever I earn on Medium, 50% will be donated to educating children in Afg.
